A Mother's Reassurance Ends Before Elise Can Answer

Elise's mother notices the nerves she is trying to hide and offers reassurance about finally meeting her wolf. That brief moment of recognition is interrupted by her father's entrance, after which her mother bows and the family moves on. The scene leaves a small but telling gap between comfort and advocacy: the mother understands something of Elise's fear, but in these opening paragraphs her father's demand to leave overrides the opportunity for a fuller conversation.

What does Elise's mother recognize, and what remains unsaid when her father interrupts?
