Chapter 1

Cesmae's POV

“Run away and don't look back. If we're caught, that's the end….”

But I was caught after all on my 18th birthday at the annual mating ball.

By my mate Morgan, the Alpha's nephew and my best friend Carlisle’s crush.

After the Alpha congratulated us and the rest of the Pack followed in kind, Morgan grabbed my hand and practically dragged me away from the ballroom.

The next thing I know, I am being flung into an empty room. Morgan steps in and closes the door after himself, glaring at me with eyes that hold no affection.

I can feel a pit beginning to form in my stomach as my subconscious dissects the situation and comes up with only one possible outcome —And it is one of the worst fates that can befall a wolf.

I swallow and stand up to my feet.

“Why have you brought me here?” My voice comes out so small, anxious.

“As peculiar as you are, even you can agree that we have nothing in common. The moon goddess might have decided it, but I don't want you as a mate. It seems even the rest of the Pack will support my decision.” He begins sternly and my heart clenches.

The word ‘peculiar’ caught me off guard. Yes, I have always been the odd bug in the Pack, never really fitting in. I have luscious brown hair with a single red streak and mismatched eyes, one blue and the other brown. I shifted at age 12 rather than 14 like most people. And it is difficult to make friends, people often say I talked funny, specifically too formal for my age.

And it has always been strange to me how everyone in my Pack has felt like a stranger. Don't get me wrong, I have never been treated badly, at least by most people but it always feels like I don't belong. Coupled with the fact that I don't remember the first 10 years of my life at all, it is all a blur. My parents died in an accident of which I was the sole survivor. I was 10 then and when I woke up, I couldn't remember anything.

So previously I held no feelings for the man in front of me too. He seems so far out of reach, I never even bother to conceive the thought but now that the mate bond has been established, I feel an inexplicable attachment to him.

It is like I have finally found a long-lost possession, something I don't even know I am missing. My mate is the one who completes me and my wolf wars within me, fueling the desire to hold onto this precious bond. But I honestly feel bad for Carlisle. I know she loves Morgan and they would make an awesome couple.

“I know that we are both different in our own ways but that's what makes us unique, don't you agree? I know that you have feelings for Carlisle and I too only desire her happiness but as goddess Selene has made it this way, she must have a reason. I am willing to get to know you and build a strong bond with you. I could even change if you so desire, I can become the perfect mate you want but please don't give up on us just yet.” I beg frantically as the tightness in my chest continues to grow.

“What makes you think you could ever become someone I want? It's pointless to argue so I'll just hit the nail on the head. I, Morgan Crone, reject you, Cesmae Winters as my mate and hereby break any bond we might share.” He declares the words that hit me like a knife to the heart.

I clench my chest and stagger backward, gritting my teeth as an excruciating pain bubbles in my chest. Tears cloud my vision and I try to blink them away without success.

“I'm done with you. It'll be better if you never come in front of me again.” He says mercilessly and leaves the room, abandoning me after such a brutal rejection.

It is cruel.

“It's OK, we'll be fine. It's just a rejection, we can move on from this.” Kasia, my wolf consoles me, keeping up a brave front. I always know she is different from other wolves. She is strong, talented, and almost unbreakable.

She nudges me internally, releasing a soothing aura that quickly washes over me and makes the pain almost disappear. Almost.

But still, if anyone is supposed to be most affected by the rejection, it would be her, but the fact that she stays strong and only wants to move forward, means that I should do the same.

I stand up, wipe the tears that escape down my cheeks, and take a deep breath. Looking at the bright side, now that Morgan has rejected me, he can have a chance to be with Carlisle. They are honestly more suited for each other and I will never want to come in the way of their love story. This is all probably for the best.

I continue to tell myself that and force on a smile despite the lingering sadness in my heart. I have to return to the Ball before Carlisle’s father (my uncle), Beta of the Pack, gets worried and starts looking for me.

I walk out of the room and down the hallway, heading back to the ballroom but I am only a short distance away when I realize that I am missing something. The necklace that I have worn to the ball is no longer around my neck. It belongs to Carlisle’s mother who I also refer to as my aunt.

It is given to her by her husband and I have only borrowed it for the night. There is no way I can lose something so precious. Panic quickly sets in and I rush back to the room and begin to search around. Thankfully, it is lying on the floor, next to an ottoman. It must have fallen when Morgan pushed me into the room.

As I put the necklace around my neck, I hear strange sounds coming from the next room.

It is Morgan's voice and though I can't hear what he is saying, I can tell from his tone that he is angry.

That is funny, here I think he will be happy to have gotten rid of me so easily. But the sounds that follow stop my thoughts in their tracks.

There is the sound of something breaking and then the sound of something heavy falling to the floor and finally……. Carlisle's scream……

Wait, Carlisle’s scream?!

My blood runs cold at the realization and my legs move on their own before I even have the chance to think. Bolting out of the room, I throw the door of the next room open and rush inside to witness a scene that makes my heart drop.

Carlisle is sprawled on the floor, bleeding from the head while Morgan has a knife dug deep into her stomach almost to the hilt. Blood streams out around the wound and colors her white dress red.

Morgan's eyes fall on me and he throws me a sadistic smile as if he is excited to see me like I am a special guest, granted a front-row seat to his sick game.

I watch with pure horror as he drives the knife out and raises it up, letting the blood drip on his tongue, savoring the taste and moaning with twisted delight.

My stomach turns with revulsion but I still can't move, can't even say a word as I am too shaken to react.

How? What….? Why?

These are the only words that circle around my non-functioning brain.

Before I can mull over the questions, I am slammed into the wall with a speed that can only be described as inhuman.

“What are you doing, Morgan? What have you done? Carlisle…… She…..” I try to get out the words but his hands wrap around my neck tightly, depriving me of air.

“Unfortunate, isn't it? Such a sweet little thing she was. Was even a better girlfriend than I could have hoped for but she just couldn't handle her curiosity. She found out what she wasn't supposed to and paid the price, just like you are about to. Except I won't be the one to punish you, the entire Pack will. Cesmae Winters, the Pack’s weirdo finally lost it and killed Carlisle Newman, the daughter of the family who adopted and raised her like their own, just because she was rejected by her mate, who was in love with Carlisle instead. It's quite the story, isn't it?” He grins dangerously, increasing the pressure of his grip while I choke, uselessly struggling to break free.

“That's……not true…..” I rasp.

“The truth is only what people believe. Someone has to take the fall, nobody really liked you anyway.” He muses as he manages to cut my air supply completely.

The lack of oxygen to my brain makes my vision turn white and I can feel all my strength disappearing. I am losing consciousness!

No! I have to stay awake, I need to get Carlisle to a hospital. She can't die! She……

My brain goes blank and I am suddenly swallowed by cold darkness……

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Cesmae's POV

I wake up chained to the wall of what I assume to be the Pack's dungeon. The place is made of bricks and mortar chafing at the surface. The lighting is dim and the air smells of blood and piss.

As I begin to recollect how I have ended up here, I struggle against my restraints, screaming for help and soon, I hear heavy footsteps approaching. I've always had very keen hearing so I'm able to deduce that about three people are coming.

My guess turns out to be correct as three people appear in front of me; The Alpha, my uncle, the Beta, and a man I recall to be the Gamma of our Pack.

“Where is Carlisle? Is she alright? Please tell me they were able to save her.” I beg frantically.

The Alpha and the Gamma glare at me disdainfully while my uncle looks away from me, a deep sadness clouding his features. It makes my stomach drop.

“What are you talking about, you evil spawn?! Carlisle is dead because you murdered her. Morgan witnessed the whole thing.” The Alpha spats out harshly, his tone showcasing his disgust.

I feel my heart shatter at the revelation as tears cloud my vision. Carlisle is….dead? But how can that be? It was only this morning when we'd sang our favorite song while making breakfast together and she had gotten me ready for the Mating Ball.

But now she's dead, gone and I'll never see her beautiful smile again…..

Morgan. He killed her and now he's pinned the whole thing on me! No, I won't let that happen. I'll reveal his truth and get justice for Carlisle.

“Why? Why did you do it?” My uncle's broken voice rings out throughout the dungeon and the tears finally run down my cheeks simultaneously choking me.

I don't know what hurts more, the fact that Carlisle is dead or my uncle thinks that I betrayed him and murdered his daughter.

“I didn't do it, I swear. I didn't kill Carlisle. I loved her, she was like a sister to me. Morgan was the one who killed her, I just happened to witness the scene and he knocked me out before I had a chance to tell anyone.” I blurt out desperately, my voice breaking.

“Morgan said you would come up with a similar story and as vile as your actions are, I give everyone a fair chance, even a ruthless criminal like yourself. Let's say we believe you for one moment. What reason would Morgan have to murder Carlisle?” The Alpha asks, his voice thick with malice and his eyes boring holes into my skin.

“I don't know. He only said she found out something she shouldn't have so he killed her in order to silence her.” I respond truthfully and the Gamma snickers.

“Yeah, right. Given your despicable act, I assumed you would have a better cover story but I guess that brain of yours only works when you're carrying out evil. Your motive is clear, you've been jealous of Carlisle and when you were rejected for her, you killed her out of spite. Morgan told us everything, how he witnessed you stab Carlisle and you tried to attack him afterward so he had to knock you out.”

If looks could kill, I'm pretty sure I'd be dead already.

“How is it that you're believing Morgan's story over mine? What proof do you have that he's telling the truth.” I challenge and the Alpha scowles.

“Morgan loved Carlisle so much that everyone already accepted they would-be mates. He absolutely adored her and he's my nephew, a man of royal blood, there's no way he would sully his hands with such evil. Besides those sentiments, there's cold hard evidence and they all point to you as the murderer. The necklace you were wearing was found in the hand of her corpse. Your fingerprints are all over her body and even the murder weapon and finally, you left scratch marks on Morgan's neck when he tried to disarm you. You have no case so just fess up and take your punishment with pride.” The Alpha deadpans and I freeze.

No…. It can't— Why is Morgan doing this? Why?!

“But Morgan—” I try to counteract in one last ditch effort but is rudely cut off by the Alpha.

“Morgan is devastated. He's beyond consolation, I've never seen him so broken before. He asked for one thing and one thing only, to see the one who murdered the love of his life executed. So prepare yourself, Cesmae Winters, tomorrow you will be hanged for your crime in view of the entire Pack.” The Alpha declares and I release a whimper as fresh tears roll down my cheeks.

Why? How can I be punished for a crime I don't commit while the culprit roams free and endangers the lives of others? If Morgan could kill Carlisle so easily and then frame me in such a cold-blooded manner, what's the guarantee he won't do it again?

What's the secret he was talking about? What could be so important that would be worth taking a life over? I have to get justice for Carlisle. Moon goddess, please….. Please help me just this once.

The Alpha turned away and so did the Gamma and my uncle.

“Uncle, please….. You have to believe me, I didn't do it. You know me better than anyone, I would never want to harm Carlisle or anyone else. I would never betray you like that.” I pleaded, hoping he would believe me but he didn't bother to stop or even look at me.

“I thought I knew you. I took you in because you were the daughter of my dear friend and you had nowhere else to go. Tell me, where did I go wrong? Was my sin against you so great that you decided to kill my only child? I loved you just as much as Carlisle, gave you everything you needed but you chose to repay me in such a wicked way. I'll never forgive you, I'll pray you burn in hell for all eternity.” He said and I could tell from his voice that he was really struggling to hold back tears.

I didn't know what else to say so I just cried. The three of them left the room, plunging the dungeon into silence again and leaving me to wallow in my own misfortune.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

I had fallen asleep when a voice woke me up. It was Kasia’s.

“Wake up! Wake up, Cesmae! There's no time, we have to run now. It's almost sunrise.”

“Run? Run where? We're chained to the damn wall and there must be a guard outside. There's no way we're getting out of here, let's just accept it.” I replied dejectedly and she tsked.

“It's not like you to give up so easily. There is a way for us to leave. I can't reveal much because I'm under a binding vow but the only thing I can say is you're a latent shapeshifter.”

I perked up when I heard those words.

Binding vow? Latent shapeshifter?

“What are you talking about?”

“I told you there's no time to talk, someone will soon come to take us to the gallows if we don't hurry. I'll explain everything once we've reached safety. For now, I just want you to close your eyes and envision your ten-year-old self and wish upon that form as hard as you can.” She instructed and I was still so confused but if there's anyone I trust completely, it's Kasia.

She wouldn't play around like this when we're on death row.

I closed my eyes and did what she asked and like some sort of magic, I felt myself shrinking. The chains fell right off and I crumbled to the ground, managing to break my fall.

I took a look at my hands and my body and realized I was indeed in the body of a ten-year-old. I had so many questions but there was no time to ask them.

I carefully opened the dungeon door. As suspected, there was a guard at the door but luckily, he was asleep so I slipped out very quietly.

Moving gingerly through the prison, I saw several guards patrolling and I was so close to being caught a few times but I managed to slip out undetected.

As soon as I was out of the building of the Pack Prison, I ran as fast as my little legs could carry me. I wasn't looking in front of me, too busy watching my back when I bumped into someone hard.

I fell backward instantly and rubbed my head. When my eyes opened, a cold chill ran down my spine.

It was Morgan!

He looked at me strangely and grabbed my hand, helping me up.

“Are you OK, little one? What are you doing out here so early?” He asked with pretentious care while I struggled not to cower.

He inspected my features closely and all of a sudden, realization struck his eyes.

“Cesmae?!” He called, his voice unsure but there was no time to dally.

"Run! Run! Run!" The words keep echoing in my head like thunder, just like yesterday.

I yanked his hand away and ran right past him, dashing into the forest as fast as my little lungs could manage.

Tears clouded my vision, everything was all a blur and nothing made sense but I kept moving on, going past the branches and spiky vines that ripped through my dress, even managing to slightly cut my skin in the process.

I didn't care about the pain, I couldn't even feel it with so much adrenaline pumping through my blood. All that echoed in my mind was the fact that I needed to get away from this Pack as quickly as possible.

Getting to the border of my Pack, it was diligently guarded by scouts and it would have been impossible to pass through but I had the advantage of my size and the imagination of a child.

I created a distraction and ran through as quickly as I could. I only stopped when I was a good distance away from the border.

My body collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath, my body wracking with heavy coughs as my throat felt as dry as bricks.

“You've done very well, Cesmae but you need to rest now. You'll have to recover your strength for the journey ahead.” Kasia commended.

I couldn't argue with that as I was completely exhausted. The sun was beginning to rise up in the sky and it would be fully dawn soon.

I found a spot under a tree with a good amount of grass and underbrush. I lay there and before I knew it, I fell asleep.

I kept having weird dreams, from blurry flashbacks to strange voices in my head, the scene of Carlisle's murder, and then finally…..

Gentle taps woke me up from my slumber and I jolted upwards. I blinked repeatedly and looked up through sleepy eyes.

It was a woman and she had the warmest smile ever. She reminded me of what a mother would be if I had one.

“What are you doing out here, sweetie? Did you lose your way home?”

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Cesmae's POV

I recoiled backwards out of instinct but the woman's smile never faltered.

“It's OK, dear. I mean no harm at all. I just happened to be passing by and saw you lying here. You looked like you needed some help.” She explained and crouched down while I said nothing.

“Do you need some water?” She offered, handing me a bottle of water and I snatched it from her hands and gulped it down so quickly that I nearly choked.

She laughed at that as I wiped my lips and returned the now half-empty can back to her.

“You're so adorable. You have such pretty features, particularly your eyes, they're so mesmerizing.” She praised as she kept the water bottle back in her bag.

Did she really think so? Back in my Pack, I was often bullied for my looks. They all thought of me as a freak even if they never said it out loud. The only people who truly ever accepted me were Carlisle and her family but now I've lost that as well.

The thought deeply saddened me but I didn't let it show on my face.

“Thank you.” That was all I said.

“Are you lost?’” She asked again as she stood up. I really couldn't tell her the truth so I just nodded.

“Do you remember your way home?” She asks and I shake my head in the negative.

“You wouldn't mind coming with me, right? Your parents must be worried sick about you. My companions are only a short distance away and one of them is very good at tracking. We'll have you home in no time.” She said as she stretched her hand towards me. I took it and she helped me stand up.

I've never been outside my Pack before and it'll be easy to get lost or wander into dangerous territory so it's better to follow these people. That way, I'll be able to get into another Pack without arousing suspicion.

“Do you need me to carry you?” She asked.

“No, I'm fine. But thanks.” I appreciated the gesture.

“Such a strong and independent little girl, your parents must be so proud.” She praised me as she held my hand in hers and directed me onto the path. We walked a short distance before coming across a group of burly-looking men who I quickly realized were her companions.

Despite their physique, they all looked friendly and I reminded myself it wouldn't be fair to judge them because of their appearance.

Morgan looked like an absolute angel but he turned out to be the devil himself.

“Did you find another one?” One of the men asked and it made me raise an eyebrow.

Was it a common occurrence to find girls lost in the forest?

The woman simply laughed as if he had said something nonsensical.

“No, I wasn't able to find any more of the herb. It's quite rare to get in this area but I did find this little sweetheart. She was lost and scared and I thought we could help her.” The woman spoke lightly with a warm smile.

I could see the others discreetly throw the man a glare while he shrinks back, ashamed.

There's definitely something wrong with this group but I already have too much to worry about. As long as they can get me safely to another Pack, I really don't care.

“Archer, please lead the way. We need to find her Pack quickly, her poor parents must be devastated.” The woman ordered and the man named Archer simply nodded.

Archer started walking in the opposite direction of my Pack and it gave me a sense of relief. The others followed while the woman kept holding my hand, directing me to follow them.

“If you feel tired or dizzy just let me know and I'll carry you, OK?” She offered and I nodded.

I may be in my 10-year-old body but my stamina is still as great as an 18-year-old’s. A trek won't tire me out so quickly.

We'd barely gone a few minutes when I started to feel drowsy, I began yawning so much and my eyes felt heavy. I had slept before meeting this woman, I shouldn't be so tired already.

“Kasia, what's going on?” I asked.

“Isn't it obvious? You've been drugged. The water you drank was laced with a powerful sedative. If you were a normal wolf, you'd be out cold by now. But thanks to the goddess that you have drug resistance.” Kasia explained like an exhausted mother.

“What? The water was drugged?” I asked, alarmed.

“I guess you got your childish innocence back along with this body. Doesn't the dynamic of this group strike you as odd? I'm confirming it isn't just your imagination.” Kasia retorted.

And just then, I remembered something from a week ago.

While we were having dinner, my uncle talked about the recent rise in child trafficking. Children would leave home and never return. They would be lured out and kidnapped outside the Pack. And what made it a major problem was that it was affecting many other Packs, not just our own. Uncle said the Alpha was thinking of implementing a curfew to protect the children of our Pack.

I had thought then that the traffickers must be very smart if they had managed to cause such a buzz without getting caught but now I know why. The mastermind of the entire operation was a woman with a face that could even fool a god.

And sadly, I've become their latest victim. Well, not for long. They have no idea who they're dealing with.

But the situation almost made me chuckle. After being rejected, witnessing the murder of my best friend, and then being framed for said murder, I had to run for my life and now I'd somehow ended up in the hands of traffickers. Just great. I must be the unluckiest person alive.

I didn't know the extent of my drug-resistance ability so I needed to hurry before it would be too late.

“Miss, can we please stop? I really have to pee.” I requested in my cutest voice ever. I could see the annoyance flicker through her eyes for just a moment but she pulled on that devilish smile.

“Are you sure you can't hold it in, dear? We're very close. You'll be home soon.” She tried to coax me.

“No, I really can't hold it. If we keep going I'll wet myself. Please let me pee.” I whined and she sighed exasperatedly.

“Fine. Come with me, the rest of you wait here.” She instructed and nearly dragged me into the bushes. She was getting impatient.

I bent over a small bush to pee but she kept her eyes on me, somehow managing not to blink. I guess I'll have to use a few tricks of my own.

“Oh no, I'm about to potty as well. Could you please get some water to wash?”

She groaned and rubbed her temple and her frustration was delicious to watch.

“Wait here. Don't move an inch, I'll be right back.” She warned before storming off.

As soon as she was far away enough, I pulled up my panties and ran as quickly as I could, despite how tired and heavy my body felt.

I went as hard as I could and finally stopped to hide under the tall grass, watching through my haze to see if I had been followed.

I listened carefully for a few minutes but there was no sign of anyone around.

“You lost them, there's no one around,” Kasia confirmed and I released a breath I didn't know I had been holding. Good goddess, what a relief.

Since they went through such lengths to get me, I'm sure they won't give up so easily. I can't let them track me down so I have to keep moving even though I'm a little out of it.

“Where are we going to go?” Kasia asked as I started walking again.

“I don't know. Anywhere, as long as it's not the New Blood Pack.” I answered dryly.

“You know better than anyone that you can't just stroll into any Pack you want. Besides, you're a child and the risks are endless. Aside from that, Alpha Madrid can be quite ruthless. Now that Morgan has seen us escape in this form, who's to say your wanted poster won't be sent to the neighboring Packs?” She asked and I paused. She had a point. If there's something that I know well about Alpha Madrid, it's that he's very thorough and can be cruel if the situation demands it.

It's only a matter of time before I'm tracked down and I can't exactly do much in this body.

“What do you suggest then? That I give up?” I ask dejectedly.

“No, let's go where no one will ever think to look for us. Let's go to the Lycan Kingdom.”

Has she lost it? Going to the Lycan Kingdom is a direct death sentence. Lycans and werewolves have been at war for a thousand years. Werewolves are banned from stepping foot in Lycan territory. If caught, they'll be executed on the spot and she's asking me to……

“Yes, I'm in my right senses. But don't you think it's better to be killed after being caught trespassing than to be hanged for a murder you didn't commit? Your size is sure to make you less suspicious, I have a good feeling about the Lycan Kingdom so please trust me.” She implored and I sighed in defeat.

She's the reason we've gotten this far. Might as well leave our fate in her hands. If I die, she does too.

“Alright then, the Lycan Kingdom it is.” I conceded.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Our Pack had always been known for being the closest werewolf Pack to the Lycan Kingdom but we never got attacked because of the peace pact that was implemented about a hundred years ago. It only took me two days to get to Lycan territory. I survived on wild fruits and berries and slept under trees and small caves.

It was easier to get in than I had anticipated. I was able to sneak in by hiding in a consignment of goods that was being transported into the Kingdom. My miniature size really did come in handy. I discreetly got out of the box and snuck out of the truck while the goods were being loaded out.

I knew I had to stay out of public places or the Lycans would sniff me out. Lycans and werewolves though having similar biology possess very distinct scents. Lycans released a harsher, synthetic pheromone that could easily overwhelm while werewolves had a milder, earthy scent that was easy to mask.

I stole a cloak and tried my best to hide my scent. It seemed to work as I was able to leave the busy market without drawing any attention.

I found my way into the forests of the Lycan Kingdom, deciding it would be safer to hide out there for now. It was there that I came across a rather peculiar scene. A little girl that had long flowing red hair and eyes that were the most incandescent cerulean. She was absolutely gorgeous, too beautiful for words and she seemed to have been kidnapped.

I hid carefully as I heard the men discussing and laughing to themselves about how they'd make a fortune from selling her. They were four in number, way too much for me to handle even in my adult form.

They sat around the fire and drank while she sat on a small rock, hands tied. She looked to be about six years old and she was definitely a Lycan. I felt an inexplicable urge to save her.

“We have to help her,” I told Kasia who quickly came up with a plan. Luckily, there was a snake slithering around nearby.

I caught it by the head and threw it into the circle the kidnappers had formed around the fire. Just as predicted, they freak out like children and it gives me the chance to pull the girl into the bushes.

Thankfully, she doesn't make a sound. Probably because I'm also a kid so it's easier for her to trust me. I untie her hands and she hugs me. I note with surprise that she smells sweet; like sugary candy and vanilla. Typically uncharacteristic of a Lycan but then again I've never really met one in my life. Well, except for her. The scent is soft, warm and comforting.

“We have to run before they notice you're gone. Don't let go of my hand no matter what, OK?” She simply nods and I hold her hand and take off in a sprint.

We run until we get to the entrance of the forest, just a short distance from the main town, and suddenly, a strange feeling encompasses me and I feel myself growing.

In the blink of an eye, I'm back to my adult self.

“It looks like time's up. It was fun though, getting to see you as a child. It'll take a very long time before you can shift like that again.” Kasia comments and before I have the chance to ask questions, the little girl jumps into my arms and holds me tightly.

“Mummy!” She calls and I pause in shock before finally managing to pull her away from me.

I had expected a lot of reactions from her after seeing me change form like that but calling me mummy? Really?

“I'm not your mum, I just saved you because it was the right thing to do. Now please lower your voice, it'll be really bad for me if you create a scene.” I try to hush her.

She suddenly turns away and sniffs the air before darting forward. Running towards the town, Selene knows where.

I groan and run after her even though it's a stupid decision. I already saved her once. If she gets in trouble again, it shouldn't be my problem but she's too damn pretty to be a slave so here I am chasing after her in enemy territory.

“Daddy!” She calls out excitedly and runs to hug a pair of long legs. Strong arms lift her up and my eyes dart upwards to catch a glimpse of the face and oh dear goddess.

He was really tall, probably seven feet. Dressed in expensive attire, he was the definition of elegance and regality. Blonde hair styled perfectly, a face that looked like it was carved by angels, and deep emerald eyes that looked like they could bore into anyone's soul. He was larger than life itself.

“Your Majesty, please wait!” Came a voice as a man appeared behind him, looking like he had just run a marathon.

Your Majesty? Wait. Don't tell me…… The Lycan King?!

No, no way. I am so fucked. Moon goddess, do you really hate me this much?!

He stared at me with such intensity that it made me feel naked, his pheromones flared, a smell of burnt wood and camphor that promised danger, it made me shrink backward.

And just then I felt it, that sickeningly sweet feeling again, it was like a high all on its own. I dreaded hearing those words but they came anyway.

“Mate!” Kasia confirmed and I just wanted to disappear right there and then.
