Two Betrayals Meet One Remembered Source of Protection

Ash recalls being betrayed by trusted people in her former life, while Thora's memories identify her grandfather as the person who stood beside her. The shared experience of betrayal helps Ash interpret the new life as a responsibility rather than merely a reprieve. Her promise to pursue Thora's dreams gives this recognition a direction, turning remembered protection and shared injury into reasons to take responsibility for the life whose memories she is now beginning to understand.

What makes Ash's response to Thora's memories resemble an obligation rather than simple gratitude for survival?
