A Blurry Profile Photo Disturbs Evelyn's Trust in Liam

Evelyn has treated Liam's love as a refuge from the dismissiveness at home, investing time and skill in his pack as their planned engagement approaches. A glimpse of Samantha's message recipient makes that confidence wobble, but Evelyn explicitly acknowledges that the image was unclear. In these opening paragraphs, her uncertainty is concrete: the profile image seems familiar, Samantha hides the screen, and Evelyn has to decide how much weight to give a glimpse that she herself describes as blurry.

What does Evelyn directly observe on the phone, and what remains a fearful interpretation of an unclear image?
