Relationships in the opening

Anaiah Looks for Care Beyond Her Parents' Glares

While serving breakfast, Anaiah looks toward her parents and receives hostility rather than comfort. Her wolf imagines a future mate as an answer to that absence and a source of unconditional acceptance. The teachers she remembers as kind offer recognition tied to her academic work, making school a source of supportive contact as well as learning; her wolf's hope for a mate expresses a different, future-facing desire for care.

Which sources of acceptance are remembered as real, and which exist only as hopes for the future?
