Relationships in the opening
A New Bond Cannot Erase Nico's Old Comparisons
The narrator's connection to Nico arrives with a history that complicates hope: he has repeatedly hurt her by comparing her unfavorably with Lucy. His stated respect for the Goddess's choice does not itself repair that treatment, and neither partner has arranged anything for the expected completion of their bond. Charna's unease therefore accompanies a relationship whose formal possibility has developed faster than demonstrated trust between the two people involved.
What evidence of personal regard exists beyond Nico's stated wish to respect the mate connection?
