Relationships in the opening

A Basketball Promise Divides the Birthday Breakfast

Scarlett's happiness centers on time with her often-absent father and a basketball outing she has wanted for years. Shared interests make their connection feel special to her, but her mother and sisters read that same closeness through exclusion and favoritism. The opening offers competing family perspectives rather than a single reliable verdict on who is wrong, with even affectionate birthday greetings giving way to disputes over who receives attention.

How does the same father-daughter bond look different to Scarlett, her mother, and her sisters?
