Relationships in the opening

Serena Follows Someone She Cannot Yet Identify

The ball begins with familiar teasing from Serena's twin, then moves into an encounter with a stranger whose identity she cannot scent. His guidance makes an unfamiliar dance feel manageable, and her responses become more relaxed. That ease is not the same as established trust: this opening allows a reader to track what she learns through interaction while noticing how much basic information remains unavailable beneath the masks and alcohol.

What does Serena actually learn about the stranger during the dance, beyond his skill at making her comfortable?
