The Promised Mate Bond Arrives Without Welcome

Stories from servants have made finding a mate Sheila's imagined refuge from her father's household. Recognition of Killian supplies the bond but none of the welcome she expected: he resists taking her, studies her coldly, and offers no conversation on the journey. The emotional tension lies between a story of guaranteed belonging and the cold reception she experiences, making even her attempt at conversation during the journey a test of the welcome she had imagined.

How do the servants' stories shape Sheila's expectations before Killian has shown her any personal care?
