Relationships in the opening

Nina Answers the Message Fiona Can Barely Type

After Baron calls her cold and cancels the wedding, Fiona withdraws to her room, uncertain how to face her father. Nina's messages reach her there and reject Baron's judgment rather than demanding that she preserve the arrangement. This is a modest but distinct form of support within the opening: a friend responds to Fiona's hurt, while the long acquaintance with her intended husband has provided no comparable understanding.

How does Nina's response differ from the way Baron interprets Fiona's controlled demeanor?
