Relationships in the opening

Lisa Waits for a Voice That Might Be Hers

Lisa briefly mistakes being held upright for help, only to realize Baron is positioning her for another blow. With no support evident among the onlookers, she places hope in meeting her wolf and perhaps finding a future protector. The eventual birthday greeting inside her mind is therefore a concrete change in her isolation, making a moment of acknowledgment from within stand out against the public refusal to recognize her dignity in these opening paragraphs.

How does the wolf's first greeting differ from the apparent help Lisa misreads earlier in the confrontation?
