Relationships in the opening

Mate, Best Friend, and Wolf Become Unreachable

Elara enters the scene relying on Kieran's promise of marriage, but his rejection is followed by the announcement that her best friend will take her place. At the same time, her wolf Enya withdraws and no longer answers her. The opening gathers several losses of connection into one night, then brings Seraphina to her door as an enforcer of duty rather than the friend whose comfort she might once have expected.

How does Seraphina's visit reveal the difference between their former friendship and the role she now assumes?
