Relationships in the opening

Cara Silences Lucy While Her Own Trust Unravels

Cara's wolf Lucy voices the distress that Cara tries to suppress in order to keep working. That internal division becomes more painful when Lilia reveals knowledge of the relationship Alaric had required Cara to conceal. The opening presents trust failing on two levels: Cara's private bond does not bring acknowledgment, and the secrecy she maintained does not appear to have been respected on equal terms by the person who demanded it.

What does Cara's exchange with Lucy reveal about the emotional cost of protecting Alaric's preferred public story?
