Keith's Small Defense Cannot Restore Hope's Trust

Hope searches Keith's expression for evidence that the mate she knows will intervene, briefly interpreting signs of pain as a promise of protection. He instead discourages her request for a truth seeker, then later challenges Dane's aggression. These inconsistent acts keep her attention fixed on him without resolving the central betrayal: a limited defense against another man's hostility is not the same as believing her account or resisting the judgment against her.

Which of Keith's actions protect Hope in a limited way, and which leave her central plea unanswered?
