Relationships in the opening

A Recognized Face Cannot Immediately Restore Trust

After escaping Garrick, Selene encounters Bastien, someone she remembers from childhood and once imagined as reassuring. His concerned approach nevertheless becomes frightening when his men surround her and she anticipates another loss of control. The scene separates intended reassurance from received safety: familiar features and gentle words do not overcome her immediate fear, and the order to catch her further complicates any claim that help is already established.

Which aspects of Bastien's approach might look reassuring from outside but threatening from Selene's position?
