Athena Offers Resistance Where Care Is Missing

Kacie describes a life without remembered parents or a dependable source of reassurance outside the household that controls her. During the confrontation, her wolf Athena offers to intervene, creating an internal exchange that differs sharply from Ken's commands. Kacie does not simply accept that help, because she fears what taking action could provoke; these opening paragraphs treat support as something she must assess under pressure, not as an automatic solution to danger.

Why can Athena's offer feel encouraging to Kacie without immediately becoming a form of help she is ready to accept?
