Five Years of Devotion Meet Disbelief

Deanna asks Jake to believe her, drawing on a relationship she has spent years trying to strengthen. He interprets the same plea through their conflict over Peggie, whose wishes he continues to prioritize. The later shift into his viewpoint shows him acknowledging unease but planning a compensatory ceremony instead of checking her safety, making the problem one of failed attention as well as broken trust in this specific encounter.

Which details does Jake reinterpret to preserve his belief that Deanna is only protesting the ceremony?
