Relationships in the opening

Unexpected Help Arrives Without an Existing Alliance

Landon is surrounded and badly injured when Tessa interrupts the attack, although she initially treats the encounter as an obstruction on her way home. Her intervention creates assistance without an established relationship or an explicit promise to stay. Keeping the focus on immediate support, rather than projecting a future bond, allows readers to ask what cooperation is actually visible between two people whose reasons for acting are not yet the same.
