Relationships in the opening

A Promised Bond Meets Deliberate Public Cruelty

The narrator has imagined finding a mate as a form of acceptance despite anticipating rejection for being wolfless. Noah instead turns the encounter into a demonstration of exclusion, watching her while he kisses Bella. Her outward composure and private anguish pull in opposite directions, making this a useful opening for observing how an ideal of unconditional connection can leave someone particularly exposed when the other person refuses care.

Which details reveal the gap between the narrator's visible response and the hurt she cannot safely express?
