Rosaline understands her grandfather's insistence on a powerful marriage as a response to losing her parents. She agrees to a three-month trial partly because his health is failing and she does not want to add to his worry. The exchange contains affection as well as disagreement: he seeks protection through alliance, while she believes she has already earned her pack's respect. Their compromise does not erase that difference in trust.
