Relationships in the opening

A Distant Connection Becomes a Possible Ally

Dravina cannot rely on the wider pack's sympathy because nobody openly challenges Cassian. She instead places cautious hope in Arixen, a man she barely knows through an earlier meeting and distant family ties. He listens to her plea and promises help reconnecting with her parents. In these opening paragraphs, receiving that promise gives Dravina a specific reason for hope after years of measuring every request against Cassian's threats.

What makes Dravina willing to approach Arixen, and how does he respond to the request she risks making?
