Valen's Homecoming Brings People Who Understand Her

Valen interprets Katarina's stubbornness as a strength rather than a defect, making his return a welcome interruption to her mother's criticism. She immediately invites Raven and Gideon to share the homecoming, and their teasing messages show familiar ease. Gideon's acceptance of women who are not submissive matters in the context she describes. The scene establishes a circle of recognition that does not depend on her becoming the daughter her mother prefers.

How do Valen and Katarina's friends respond differently to the traits her mother criticizes?
