Relationships in the opening

An Anniversary Overshadowed by Another Woman

The ceremony falls on an anniversary Caelum had claimed he was too busy to celebrate with Freya. His missing wedding band and gift to Aurora make that absence concrete, while Freya remembers choosing a relationship in which she hoped rank would not determine love. Her account of financial and emotional investment frames these opening paragraphs as a reckoning with reciprocity, with attention to how Caelum's public gestures compare with the loyalty Freya remembers giving him.

Which gestures matter to Freya as signs of loyalty rather than displays of wealth?
